A robotic loading container system is important to collect soil and water. Having a robotic system to harvest soil or water and then deliver it in an aerodynamic container suitable for stability and speed of the drones.
An important part of this design will be to keep momentum. as system where the drone can pull the container on a rail or roller system, and gain speed horizontally could help not wasting massive amounts of fuel with a straight up lift. We could use a drone helicopter hybrid, essentially a Blackhawk with jets for omnidirectional thrusting. If we have a wing system, and even containers with flight controls, and perhaps a more rigid linking system of aircraft to container, we could essentially fly these rather than lift them as i had originally though. an AC 130 tailored to this would be nice as well :).
I thought about scattering soil at a slower rate, higher altitude. A height that wouldn't kill anything as it landed. The species in the area could adjust and move accordingly. Or, enjoy more water and food and adapt and thrive in the new climate to give them a better chance at survival as a species long term.
